Japanese Black is an unusual tea from the region, as the country specializes in its famous green teas. This tea serves as an excellent demonstration of terroir. While black teas from India, Sri Lanka, and Africa tend to be malty and robust, this black tea is smooth and sweet with almost no bitterness. Earthy, mild flavors with hints of savory, marine, and vegetal notes. Smooth drinker.

The tea is grown using the Yabukita cultivar, and is allowed to fully oxidize to become a black tea. It is just one of the teas produced by the Kinezuka Family, who are pioneers in Japan for their all-natural tea production and quality teas.

Ayumi, the family's eldest daughter and the lead teacrafter for the teas, learned how to make black tea from visits to Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Her name for this tea is "Setoya Momiji", or Setoya Red Maple.
