The Tea
Thyolo Moto is a black tea from Malawi. The tea leaves are handpicked, and allowed to fully oxidize to create a black tea. Afterwards, the finished tea is smoked over guava wood to impart an incense-like, smoky flavor.
Satemwa's skilled tea pickers allow the estate to craft truly quality teas, as good leaf material is key. This tea is crafted using bushes of the Thyolo cultivar, named after the local city and district of Thyolo. This cultivar tends to yield smooth, sweet teas with a soft creaminess, like Satemwa's Thyolo Black & Thyolo TSFBOP1.
It is inspired by Lapsang Souchong (Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong) style of tea from China, a black tea smoked with pine wood after processing.
